In this series we ask members of the wine gang what de la boue, which can only be roughly translated from the French, means to them.

Gretchen: “When I think positively of mud it is of muddy calves. Chris and I grew up running and we grew up in New Hampshire and we grew up together. Our early days were full of escaping our parents and classes through the trails that spidered through our small town. Inevitably the weaving around roots would cause our shoes to graze the interior of our calves leaving a mark, somewhere between an athletic nike swoosh and a tribal symbol.
