Nostalgie de la boue (day luh BOO) is a french phrase with a loose translation that means a longing for simpler times. Directly translating to “of the dirt,” de la boue is a reminder that it all comes from the ground beneath our feet. We farm ourselves and also partner with amazing growers - because great wine comes from great soil. Our simple approach to winemaking yields complexity. Nature has already perfected what we are doing, we are just adding some muddied helping hands.

In addition to making the best single-vineyard wines we can, at d.l.b. we’re focused on a few things:

1. #bluecollarequity we are passionate about rewarding the people that do the work.

2. #oregondirt we are lucky to farm in Oregon and we are focused on doing what's best for the land. De la boue translates to "of the dirt" we are getting dirty to keep it natural.

3. #yeschef you bring the food, we'll bring the wine. We have so much respect for the chefs, servers, and a hospitality industry at the center of so many magical moments for all of us. To those pursuing their craft with everything you have - thank you. We hope to be a small part of it.

We strive to make wine to be poured for your moment and we would love to share it with you.

Winemaker Bio - Travis Todd began his time in the wine world at the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana.  During his time there he was promoted to wine buyer and ran the wine program.  With the opportunity to develop his palate by tasting some of the world's best wines, the passion for appreciating what he could taste turned into an obsessive quest to find out how to coax flavor and aroma out of the site. A trip to Pinot Camp in 2014 opened his eyes to the great soil in Oregon. Following that trip, he worked a harvest and fell in love with the work.  He and his wife Tess made Oregon their home in 2017 and during the next five years he went from cellar hand to Head Winemaker at one of the largest wineries in Oregon.

De la boue began as a passion project in 2019 with 150 cases and has grown into a full time business.  Travis farms the 5-acre organic vineyard, makes the wine and sources fruit from our vineyard partners. In 2021 he left his job to pursue de la boue full time.

We are often asked, “what’s the goal for the winery”. Our goal is to extend the average dinner by one hour. If we can put a great bottle of wine on the table to encourage one more hour of story telling, one more hour of connection, then we know we are achieving our goals. Here’s to the folks that get their hands dirty.

Cheers – Travis & Chris
