2020 Vintage

2020 began with a cool, wet spring. Budbreak was tracking in a normal pattern, while rain during bloom caused yields to be lower than normal - focusing concentration of berry and flavor development. A cooler than normal July and August helped the fruit ripen slowly and evenly, with a heat bump in the first week of September to help finish out the year. We began the harvest with Chardonnay on September 10 and rounded it out on October 12 with the last of the Pinot. We are excited to add a few new vineyards and wines to our portfolio!

We are proud to bring back our Pinot Noir from Vista Grande Vineyard and our Syrah from Lewis Vineyard. We are also adding a new Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Gregory Ranch Vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton AVA. We feel incredibly fortunate to be receiving fruit from this esteemed vineyard. Surrounded by oak and fir trees, Gregory Ranch’s viticulture and biodynamic farming programs have been carefully managed to produce the best fruit possible. Wildlife abounds as this vineyard is off the beaten path. Visit us and we’ll show you around. We are lucky to be working with such high quality fruit.

With the impact of wildfires upon us, we had to rethink our strategy. We made adjustments to our harvest plan and took non-conventional approaches. In winemaking there is never a silver bullet, only a series of decisions that lead us to the bottle. We got creative and minimized skin contact for some things and over extracted others. We wanted to learn as much as we could. Thoughtful pick decisions and careful winemaking allowed us to navigate the impact of smoke. We think the wines show concentration and focus - we are proud of what we put into the bottle.

Travis - sorting fruit.
